ILLiad Electronic Delivery Information

Electronic delivery is available for items that are delivered to us electronically from the lending library.

How do I sign up for electronic delivery?

  1. Logon to ILLiad.
  2. From the main menu, click the "Change" link under the Personal Information options.
  3. For the choice "Preferred Electronic Delivery if Possible (via web through ILLiad)" choose "Yes" to have your electronic articles posted to your ILLiad account.

How do I know if my computer can receive electronic articles?

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed and configured to work with your Web browser in order to view, download, and print these articles. If you can read the sample page, then your computer has the necessary software installed to work with your Web browser. However, if your computer tells you the file type is unknown and asks if you want to save the file to disk, then you need to install the Adobe Acrobat Reader software.

How do I get Adobe Acrobat Reader?

Adobe Acrobat Reader is available without charge from Adobe Systems, Inc. Click the "Get Adobe Reader" button to go directly to the download page.

How do I get my articles when they arrive?

  1. Logon to ILLiad
  2. From the main menu, click the "Electronically Received Articles" link under the View Requests options.
  3. A list will be displayed containing all of the items that you have waiting to be viewed or downloaded.

How do I know which requests will be electronically delivered and which ones will not?

ILLiad sends you an e-mail notification for each item received. That e-mail will include information about the delivery method.

What if I do not want electronic delivery?

Paper delivery is the ILLiad default. Electronic delivery will be provided only if you choose it as an option on your Personal Information Form in ILLiad. To change this,

  1. Logon to ILLiad.
  2. From the main menu, click the "Edit Profile" link.
  3. For the choice "Preferred Electronic Delivery if Possible (via web through ILLiad)" choose "No".

Problem: My views allowance has been exceeded.

In order to adhere to United States Code, Title 17 (copyright law), the number of times a document is viewed or downloaded has to be limited. Contact us as soon as possible at 341-4254 or ill@sunyorange.edu if you see this message. If the item has not been purged from the system it may be possible to retrieve it. If it is not, a new order will have to be submitted.

Problem: the screen is blank.

  • Make sure the document opened in Adobe Reader.
  • Check to see if the first page of the document is blank.
  • Check to see if you still have an active Internet connection.
  • Try closing open applications to free up system resources.
  • Try saving the document to your computer, open Adobe Reader, and then open the document.

Problem: My document won’t print.

  • Make sure you are using the Adobe Reader print command. Firefox and Explorer cannot print PDF files.
  • If the file is extremely large, your printer may not be able to handle the file resolution. Contact the ILL office at 341-4254 or ill@sunyorange.edu.

Problem: It's taking a long time to open my document.

Resist the urge to cancel and restart a download because it appears nothing is happening! Clicking on the download link again will needlessly increase your views counter, which eventually blocks your access to the item. Try saving the document to your desktop instead of opening it.
